Care homes for residents with feeding tubes: questions and extra charges
Facts checked 18 Oct 2026. Written by our editors from the official sources below; not yet reviewed by a social worker or nurse. Not medical, legal or financial advice.
This is not medical advice. Government lists don't say which homes accept residents with feeding tubes, so ask the home directly:
- Does the home have residents with feeding tubes now? Who feeds and cares for them?
- When are nurses on duty? Is there a nurse at night? (EBPS EA1 homes have a higher nurse staffing standard: see EBPS.)
- What happens if a tube needs changing or comes out? Will the resident be sent to hospital?
- Are nutritional milk, feeding sets and tubes charged extra? Roughly how much a month?
Ask for all extra charges in writing before admission.
