SWD launched the Residential Care Services Scheme in Guangdong as a pilot in June 2014 and made it permanent in January 2020. People waiting on the Central Waiting List for a subsidised care-and-attention place can choose a designated home in Guangdong. From 28 July 2023 the scheme also covers people waiting for nursing home places, and operators running homes in Greater Bay Area cities can register as recognised service providers.
Six-month trial
Since 1 October 2023 there is a six-month trial stay. If the person stays on after the trial, their waiting list application closes; if they leave during the trial, their original place on the list is restored by application date.
